DESCRIPTION:Greetings Bier Meisters\, \nBacchus & Barleycorn will be hosting KCBM (as well as other local brew clubs) for 2022 Big Brew Day (BBD) on Saturday\, May 7 from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm. Big Brew Day is an AHA event to highlight homebrewing by encouraging brewers to participate in homebrew demos and trials of official AHA recipes. This year’s recipes are for an American Lager and an Imperial Porter. Jake and Jackie at Bacchus & Barleycorn have a lot of awesome opportunities for our KCBM homebrewing all-stars to highlight their skills (and win some pretty cool prizes too)! \nCheck out the key details below: \n\nJake and Jackie are hosting brewers for BBD – bring out your brew rig and brew in the back of Bacchus and Barleycorn. This is a great opportunity to hang out with beer friends and spread the homebrewing magic!\nKCBM will bring out a jockey box (of course!) to show off how great homebrew beer is! If you have a keg you would like to share at the event\, please let us know by completing the event form (link below)!\nIf you’ve always wanted to test drive a Grainfather Brewing System\, then you are in luck because Jake and Jackie are offering up one of their Grainfather Systems for one of the brewers to trial. Jake will select the lucky brewer by raffle to use the Grainfather. No\, we won’t really be making beer out of brains (although somebody probably has)\, but we are going to pick everybody’s mind on common methods and techniques such as ‘Cold-Crashing’\, ‘First Wort Hopping’ and a dozen other subjects. Within our group is a library of brewing knowledge that if unleashed could make us all better brewers. Please bring a six-pack or growler of your homebrewed (or commercial) beer/mead/cider to share!\nAnd… if you haven’t already done so… don’t forget to renew your membership: https://kcbiermeisters.com/join-the-club/ \nHomebrew Evaluations:\nIf you have homebrew that you would like to have evaluated on a 1-on-1 basis by a BJCP judge at the meeting\, please bring an extra bottle or two to the meeting and track down Mike Butler or Eric Martin to pair you up with a BJCP judge to begin the evaluation process. \nIf you have homebrew that you would like evaluated by the group at the meeting\, please bring an extra growler (or at least 4 bottles) and track down Mike Butler or Eric Martin to work out the details.  We typically do this anonymously at first\, and then the brewer will have the option to unveil or stay anonymous near the end of the process:) \nUpcoming Club Election:\nWe will be opening the floor for Board Nominations for the June 2022 through May 2023 term at the March meeting.  If you or someone you know is interested in running for a Board position\, please give it some thought prior to the March meeting.  We will take final nominations at the April 15 meeting\, with the Club Election to be held at the May 20 club meeting. \nWe are also in the process of re-evaluating the venue for our monthly meetings.  Current options are the VFW Post 7397 in Lenexa and Christ the King Catholic Church in KCMO. If you have other options in mind\, feel free to contact me to discuss further.  Similar to the Board Elections\, we will take a final vote of paid members to decide the preferred venue for the June 2022 to May 2023 term as part of the election. \nKCBM39 – Recap of Our Annual Homebrew Competition:\nNow that our annual competition (KCBM39) is complete\, the Board and Organizing Committee would like to express our gratitude to all the VOLUNTEERS that made it such a huge success. We will be providing a summary of our volunteer help and a breakdown of the revenue and expenses from the annual competition. DESCRIPTION:Please join us in-person Friday\, August 20 at the VFW Post 7397 in Lenexa (or via Zoom\, if you prefer) for MALT SENSORY TRAINING.\n  \nGrand Master Judge Amanda Burkemper and National Judge Jamye Buelke Naramore will guide you through malt sensory training to increase your understanding of various malts\, develop your descriptive vocabulary\, and compare your palate to other club members. For existing BJCP judges\, this course is approved for .5 non-judging BJCP points. Bring your phone or other device and participate in a sensory analysis of 12 different malts – 6 base malts and 6 specialty malts. Overall results will be shared with the group after tasting is complete.\n  \nSocial is at 6:30 and meeting starts at 7:00. DESCRIPTION:We are super excited to kick off 2021 with Brian Rooney (BKS Artisan Ales) and Nick Mader (Alma Mader Brewing) leading a discussion during our Zoom Meeting on Friday\, January 15\, 2021. The discussion will be divided into two parts. For the first part\, Nick and Brian will discuss their paths to owning/operating a brewery and the challenges involved in getting through startup and into sustainable operation. This discussion will be particularly interesting since Nick and Brian come from different brewing backgrounds (professional vs homebrewer).
