SUMMARY:Big Brew Day 2022
DESCRIPTION:Greetings Bier Meisters\, \nBacchus & Barleycorn will be hosting KCBM (as well as other local brew clubs) for 2022 Big Brew Day (BBD) on Saturday\, May 7 from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm. Big Brew Day is an AHA event to highlight homebrewing by encouraging brewers to participate in homebrew demos and trials of official AHA recipes. This year’s recipes are for an American Lager and an Imperial Porter. Complete information for BBD (including the recipes) is here: https://www.homebrewersassociation.org/…/big-brew…/ \nWe are hoping that you will come out for BBD to support KCBM and our local brewing community. Jake and Jackie at Bacchus & Barleycorn have a lot of awesome opportunities for our KCBM homebrewing all-stars to highlight their skills (and win some pretty cool prizes too)! \nCheck out the key details below: \n\nJake and Jackie are hosting brewers for BBD – bring out your brew rig and brew in the back of Bacchus and Barleycorn. This is a great opportunity to hang out with beer friends and spread the homebrewing magic!\nKCBM will bring out a jockey box (of course!) to show off how great homebrew beer is! If you have a keg you would like to share at the event\, please let us know by completing the event form (link below)!\nIf you’ve always wanted to test drive a Grainfather Brewing System\, then you are in luck because Jake and Jackie are offering up one of their Grainfather Systems for one of the brewers to trial. Jake will select the lucky brewer by raffle to use the Grainfather. Whether you are selected or not\, this is a great opportunity to get to see the system in action!\nJake and Jackie are sponsoring a competition for the best BBD lager. Participants may use the normal lager yeast or an alternate kviek. Winner will receive a Spike Flex Fermenter (awesome!!!). You do not need to brew at BBD to enter the competition\, but will need to purchase your ingredients at Bacchus & Barleycorn to be eligible to participate. Judging will be in August.\nNimble Brewing will be scaling up an Imperial Dark Beer. Brew up the BBD Imperial Porter recipe (or any other Imperial Dark that you like!) for your chance to brew at Nimble. Ingredients must be purchased at Bacchus & Barleycorn. The winning beer will be picked by the owners of Nimble Brewing.\n\nIf you are interested in participating or attending\, please complete this form for us to help with planning the day: https://forms.gle/PwxiqDptMjGd7uY16 \nThanks everyone! We are looking forward to seeing you all on Saturday\, May 7! \nProst!\nKCBM Board \nKansas City Bier Meisters\nEstablished 1983

SUMMARY:April 2022 Meeting: Many Brains Make Great Beer
DESCRIPTION:Greetings Bier Meisters\, \nAPRIL 15 MEETING ANNOUNCEMENT\nPlease join us on Friday\, April 15 at the VFW Post 7397 in Lenexa to enjoy a special presentation “Many Brains Make Great Beer” hosted by Dann Sarcy and Joe Rose. No\, we won’t really be making beer out of brains (although somebody probably has)\, but we are going to pick everybody’s mind on common methods and techniques such as ‘Cold-Crashing’\, ‘First Wort Hopping’ and a dozen other subjects. Within our group is a library of brewing knowledge that if unleashed could make us all better brewers. With a spin of the wheel and a draw from the hat\, this will be a fun\, fast-paced and educational game with a few rules so that everyone comes out a winner (and likely a better brewer). \nFull Meeting Schedule (Friday\, April 15): \n\n6:30-7:00 Social Time\n7:00-7:45 Club Business\n7:45-8:00 Social Time\n8:00-9:00 Main Presentation – Many Brains Make Good Beer\n9:00-10:00 Social Time / Homebrew Evaluations\n\n_____________________________________ \nHomebrew Evaluations:\nIf you have homebrew that you would like to have evaluated on a 1-on-1 basis by a BJCP judge at the meeting\, please bring an extra bottle or two to the meeting and ask Eric Martin or Jamye Buelke Naramore to pair you up with a BJCP judge to begin the evaluation process. \nIf you have homebrew that you would like evaluated by the group at the meeting\, please bring an extra growler (or at least 4 bottles) and track down Eric Martin or Jamye Buelke Naramore to work out the details. We typically do this anonymously at first\, and then the brewer will have the option to unveil or stay anonymous near the end of the process. \nUpcoming Club Election:\nFinal nominations for the 2022-2023 KCBM Board will be taken at our April 15 meeting. The term for the 2022-2023 Board is June 2022 through May 2023. If you or someone you know is interested in running for a Board position\, please connect with Jay Highfill before or at the meeting to make the nomination. Club Election will be held at the May 20 club meeting. \nWe are also in the process of re-evaluating the venue for our future monthly meetings. Current options are the VFW Post 7397 in Lenexa and Christ the King Catholic Church in KCMO. Similar to the Board Elections\, we will take a final vote of paid members to decide the preferred venue for the June 2022 to May 2023 term as part of the May election.\n_____________________________________ \nWe hope to see you on April 15!
